2014 was a definitely a huge year for dance music, with many up and coming artists being thrown into the lifestyle of hectic partying and relentless touring schedules. this also means that those who exploded onto the scene prior are no longer the new kids on the block. a few years is a long time in the life of a dj, and the first few years are often the maddest. the adana twins are a perfect example of one of these artists, having emerged onto the scene in 2012 with releases such as everyday and strange , from the off it was clear that they had everybody s undivided attention. this month athens of the north presents two 45 s from a true musical genius, weldon irvine. here we have 2 classic sides taken from the 1976 lp sinbad on rca. the vocals don blackman are certainly the equal of marvin gayes whats going on for conscious soul perfection, i don t think i can give it higher praise than that. this is in my top 5 records of all time dont think, buy it.

richard rogers black booby re-edits return with bb07, which sees chi-town original and ron hardy protégé gene hunt - a black booby veteran from bb04 - digging out more vintage dat dopeness on the double-a-side, which features raw-as-hell analogue house workout *1015* (a take on the dion & tony track from his chicago dance tracks collection on rush hour back in 2011) alongside the very aptly-named (and appropriately drum-fuelled) *dr roland*. meanwhile on the b-side you will hear uk house music og terry farley sharing production duties with another 90s house veteran, stuart stretch silvester. *play house* (original mix) is a synth-heavy jacking houser with serious dancefloor intent, plus check out the kklassik mix by another chi-town don, k alexi shelby, who chases the original headlong down a dark alley littered with emotive samples and thumping keys.

argentina has a rich history when it comes to dance music and gonzalo solimano is one of the countrys finest electronic flag-bearers. with his unlock recordings imprint he has created a heavy back-catalogue that the likes of barem, guti, luca m and daniel sanchez have all contributed to. after a short break solimano is back with his *factor h* ep and the original mix is a tropical, cow bell laden treat, one that sums up the nation’s sound nicely. on remix duty is both fase and fellow argentinian maestro guti. the producers last full-length was the jazz-inspired *rompecorazones* and now a remix lp is set to follow but here we focus on his amazing edit of *factor h*. guti has maintained the percussive elements of the original but added a significant amount of groove and focused on adding in thick kick drums and more drive. it is one you can imagine on the terraces or at 4am in a darkened room and this is why guti is such a don. pressing on green marbled vinyl)
